《最终幻想2 final fantasy II》是一款角色扮演游戏，于1988年发售，是《最终幻想》系列备受期待的第二款作品。企图征服世界的帕拉美奇亚帝国军与反抗军展开了激烈的战争，４名主人公由于被卷入其中而变成了孤儿。整个游戏以他们为中心，展开了一段既动人又悲壮的梦幻剧情。本作废除了等级制，取而代之的则是“熟练度系统”，玩家可以根据自己的喜好来决定主人公的成长风格。剧情方面则引入了全新的“词语记忆系统”，记住对话中的关键词成为了推动剧情发展的关键。本作可以说是引导系列不断追求进化发展的开端。
在游戏中同时还收录有之前的移植作品中新追加的两个特殊迷宫——“重生之魂”与“秘纹之迷宫”。
